# RTPL aviation capability map

Primary RTPL catalogue content inspected on 11 October 2026. Evidence snapshots are in `evidence/rtpl-*.txt`; retrieval records are in `extra-fetch-manifest.json` and `final-rtpl-manifest.json`. Confidence below concerns **published portfolio relevance**, not independent validation, availability, installed experience or approval. Exact specifications, interfaces and acceptance documents must be reviewed for the selected supply.

|RTPL capability|Aviation use case|Supporting published product / family|Evidence|Confidence and page boundary|
|---|---|---|---|---|
|Surface wind measurement|Local wind information for approach, arrival and departure|WindObserver family|[RTPL WindObserver](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/ultrasonic-wind-sensors/2-axis-anemometers/windobserver/); airport application explicitly listed; official Gill aviation application also inspected|High portfolio relevance. Different models have different suitability; do not attribute model approvals to the whole family. One sensor is not windshear detection.|
|Cloud-base observation|Describe vertical cloud conditions around the aerodrome|Dual-lens ceilometers, models 8339 / 8340|[RTPL ceilometer](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/cloud-height-ceilometers/dual-lens-laser-ceilometer/); airport applications and named variants|High relevance. Measure cloud bases; do not equate every base return with reported ceiling. No approval wording carried forward.|
|Visibility / present weather|Describe obscuration and current precipitation phenomena|6498 family with P, V and PV variants|[RTPL visibility / present weather](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/present-weather-sensors/present-weather-visibility-sensor/); airport application and differing variants|High relevance. Select the variant; MOR is not identical to RVR and every variant does not supply every measurement.|
|Optical extinction measurement|Visibility input for a configured RVR function|8400-eMOR transmissometer|[RTPL transmissometer](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/visibility-sensors/transmissometer/)|High portfolio relevance. Complete RVR needs other inputs and processing; no standalone-system implication.|
|Background luminance measurement|Background-light input for a configured RVR function|Background Luminance Sensor|[RTPL luminance](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/visibility-sensors/background-luminance-sensor/)|High relevance. Supporting input, not independent RVR output.|
|Pressure observation|Input to altimeter-setting information through the reporting chain|7150 / 7150A / 7150B pressure family|[RTPL pressure](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/barometric-pressure-sensors/barometric-pressure-sensor/); aviation applications|High relevance. No invented accuracy or statement that raw pressure equals an issued setting.|
|Air temperature / humidity|Atmospheric state, density and moisture context|Aviation Temperature & Humidity Sensor; MARS / SARS shielding options|[RTPL temperature / RH](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/temperature-humidity-sensors/temperature-humidity-sensor/); airport and AWOS applications; category shows shielding and unrelated probes|High for this specific probe. Generic Galltec/Thies category entries are not automatically aviation qualified. Performance/FAA claims in the listing remain unverified.|
|Precipitation accumulation|Observe rainfall separately from precipitation type|6022 / RGTE tipping-bucket gauge variants|[RTPL rain gauge](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/precipitation-gauges/tipping-bucket-rain-gauge/); airport/AWOS applications|High relevance. Heated/unheated choice needs review; accumulation is not runway water depth or a complete present-weather report.|
|Electrical-weather monitoring|Input to airport severe-weather procedures and exposed ground work|6500 thunderstorm/lightning family|[RTPL thunderstorm / lightning](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/thunderstorm-detection/thunderstorm-lightning-sensor/)|High portfolio relevance. No forecast service, universal stop/resume radius or airport alert-integration promise.|
|Local icing-condition detection|Observe local freezing-weather exposure|6495 Freezing Rain Sensor|[RTPL freezing rain](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/freezing-rain-sensors/freezing-rain-sensor/)|High relevance. Probe icing is not aircraft icing, runway friction or a runway condition code.|
|Field acquisition / diagnostics|Collect and convey airport sensor observations and status|DCP model 1192|[RTPL DCP](https://rtpl.in/products/data-logger/data-collection-platform-dcp/); explicit aviation applications, acquisition/validation/logging and diagnostics description|High published scope. Exact ports, configuration and compatible instruments belong to system engineering, not this industry diagram.|
|Central processing / presentation|Make observations usable to the required users and reporting service|Central Data Processor model 2090-I|[RTPL CDP](https://rtpl.in/products/meteorological-sensors/central-data-processor-cdp/); airport weather processing/display/reporting|High published scope. No universal redundancy, report acceptance or uptime commitment.|
|Airport observation system pathway|Coordinate observation and reporting requirements|CORTEX AWOS / MetObserver listing|[RTPL CORTEX AWOS](https://rtpl.in/products/industrial/software-apps-and-tools/cortex-awos-icao-compliant/)|High catalogue existence; exact compliance not independently verified. One concise downstream route; actual URL includes compliance wording but visible prototype label makes no compliance claim.|
|Runway visual-range system pathway|Review runway-specific visibility information needs|CORTEX RVR|[RTPL CORTEX RVR](https://rtpl.in/products/industrial/software-apps-and-tools/cortex-rvr-runway-visual-range-system/)|High published relevance. Configuration, siting, light inputs and operational acceptance require review.|
|Low-level windshear pathway|Review approach/departure windshear information requirements|CORTEX LLWAS|[RTPL CORTEX LLWAS](https://rtpl.in/products/industrial/software-apps-and-tools/cortex-llwas/); distributed-network description and airport applications|High published relevance. No transfer of catalogue algorithm certification claims to a complete RTPL system; do not promise detection coverage/performance.|
|Terminal-information dissemination pathway|Review how terminal information reaches users|CORTEX ATIS / D-ATIS|[RTPL ATIS](https://rtpl.in/products/industrial/software-apps-and-tools/cortex-atis-d-atis/)|High published relevance. Dissemination is not measurement; exact ATC interfaces and acceptance unverified.|
|General technical support|Define installation, training and ongoing support in project scope|Company support description|[RTPL home](https://rtpl.in/), published support/service text|High that these services are described publicly; airport-specific resources, SLA, accreditation and geographic availability are not established.|

## Do not advertise from the current evidence

- Complete runway surface-condition/friction assessment: a general surface-sensor category is not proof of a supplied aerodrome system. Weather inputs complement airport inspection and GRF reporting.
- Airport weather radar, approach-area LiDAR, forecasting, flight planning or an accredited MET service: no verified RTPL supply/service evidence in this research.
- Universal “ICAO certified”, “FAA certified”, “CAT III compliant”, accuracy, uptime, redundancy, proprietary integration protocols or all-weather coverage: no independently verified RTPL configuration documents.
- Airport customers, installations, names, case studies, government references, global installed base, years of aviation experience or manufacturer-authorisation scope: not substantiated.
- Generic AWS / MaxiMet / MetConnect, solar instruments, soil probes, unrelated marine instruments and wind-resource equipment: no automatic airport qualification.

This map separates the observed industry need from the published RTPL offering. Portfolio links are useful evidence; they are not evidence of an airport deployment.
