The Present Weather & Visibility Sensor provides automated visibility measurement, precipitation detection and present weather identification for airport meteorological systems and Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS). Using proven infrared forward-scatter technology with continuous high-speed sampling, the 6498 Series measures Meteorological Optical Range, identifies changing precipitation conditions and reports recognized weather codes while maintaining dependable operation during rain, hail, fog, mist and haze.
