The Thies 2D Ultrasonic Anemometer S82200H is a high-precision 2-axis ultrasonic wind sensor designed for professional wind-energy and meteorological measurements where enhanced icing protection is required. It measures horizontal wind velocity, wind direction and acoustic virtual temperature through two orthogonal ultrasonic measurement paths, eliminating mechanical inertia and allowing accurate capture of gusts and rapidly changing wind conditions. In addition to heating the supporting arms, the S82200H also heats the ultrasonic sensor head, helping protect the critical measurement area against ice formation. The instrument provides RS485/RS422 digital communication, configurable analogue outputs, up to three analogue inputs and up to 400 internal measurements per second.

Key Features

  • 2-axis ultrasonic measurement
  • IEC 61400-12-1:2017 classified
  • Wind speed measurement
  • Wind direction measurement
  • Acoustic virtual-temperature measurement
  • 0–75 m/s wind-speed range
  • 0.01 m/s starting threshold
  • ±0.1 m/s low-speed accuracy
  • ±2% higher-speed accuracy
  • ±1° wind-direction accuracy
  • RS485 / RS422 communication
  • Configurable analogue outputs
  • Up to three analogue inputs
  • Heating in sensor arms and sensor head
  • IP67 environmental protection

Heating the sensor head as well as the arms targets ice formation closer to the actual ultrasonic measurement paths. This can improve measurement availability at cold-climate wind sites where accumulated ice could otherwise obstruct the transducers and interrupt acoustic time-of-flight measurements.
