Ozone Sonde

SKU: N/A Category:

The Ozone Sonde is a lightweight balloon-borne instrument for atmospheric ozone measurement using ECC electrochemical sensing. It integrates with compatible upper-air radiosondes and supports ozone, pump temperature and accompanying meteorological measurements during atmospheric soundings.

Typical Applications:

• Upper-air ozone profiling
• Stratospheric ozone observation
• Atmospheric research
• Ozone-hole studies
• Climate research
• Long-term atmospheric monitoring
• Research institute sounding programmes
• Balloon-borne scientific measurements

The Ozone Sonde is a lightweight and compact balloon-borne instrument designed for measuring atmospheric ozone during upper-air soundings. The system uses an ECC ozone sensor, where ozone concentration is determined from the electrical current generated by an electrochemical reaction as sampled air passes through the sensor. For flight operations, the ozone sensor is interfaced with a compatible radiosonde, allowing ozone measurements to be combined with meteorological observations during atmospheric profiling. RTPL offers the system for upper-air ozone monitoring, atmospheric research and climatological observation applications.

Key Features

  • Lightweight and compact balloon-borne ozone measurement instrument
  • ECC electrochemical concentration cell measurement principle
  • Does not require an external electrical potential for ECC measurement
  • Measures atmospheric ozone concentration during balloon soundings
  • Specific interface board provides connection to the radiosonde
  • Includes measurement of ozone sonde pump temperature
  • Compatible with Meteomodem upper-air sounding systems
  • Compatible with Eoscan ozone processing software.

The ozone radiosounding system combines an ENSCI-ECC ozone sensor, OZAMP current-to-voltage interface board and a compatible M10/M20 radiosonde.
Its interfacing circuitry, including the pump-temperature sensor, is factory mounted and calibrated for integration with the ENSCI metallic frame.
The system enables ozone observations to be combined with pressure, temperature, humidity and wind measurements during an upper-air sounding.
