RainFlow RF4 Disdrometer

No-moving-parts rain gauge and disdrometer providing rain intensity, accumulated precipitation, drop-size distribution and hail detection for professional meteorological, hydrological and infrastructure monitoring.

Typical Applications

  • Meteorological observation networks
  • Hydrological and flood-monitoring networks
  • Road-weather monitoring
  • Airport precipitation monitoring
  • Urban drainage and smart-city networks
  • Wind farms and photovoltaic plants
  • Agriculture and vineyard monitoring
  • Infrastructure and erosion monitoring
  • Precipitation research and radar validation

The RainFlow RF4 Disdrometer combines a precision rain gauge, drop-size disdrometer and hail detection sensor in one rugged, no-moving-parts instrument for continuous precipitation monitoring. Using acoustic impact sensing and embedded signal processing, RF4 measures instantaneous and averaged rain intensity, cumulative rainfall, raindrop count and drop-size distribution, while identifying hail events and supporting very-low-power autonomous operation across meteorological, hydrological, transport and renewable-energy monitoring networks.

Key Features

  • Combined rain gauge, disdrometer and basic hail detector
  • Acoustic impact precipitation measurement
  • No mechanical tipping bucket or moving sensing mechanism
  • No optical measurement windows requiring routine cleaning
  • Instantaneous and averaged rain intensity
  • Cumulative rainfall measurement
  • Individual raindrop counting
  • Real-time drop-size distribution
  • Hail occurrence and impact detection
  • Internal data logging
  • Very low power for solar/battery stations
  • SDI-12 and serial ASCII communications
  • Optional Modbus RTU RS-485 integration
  • Optional 4–20 mA industrial output
  • Rugged stainless-steel and aluminum construction

Because RF4 uses an acoustic metallic sensing head instead of a tipping mechanism or exposed optical path, it combines low maintenance with information a conventional rain gauge cannot provide—especially drop-size distribution and hail-event detection.
