Ultrasonic Wind Sensor

Ultrasonic Wind Sensor for precise wind speed and direction measurement, providing maintenance-free sensing, rugged stainless-steel construction and optional de-icing heat for AWOS and airport meteorological systems.

Typical Applications

  • Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS)
  • Airport wind speed and direction monitoring
  • Aviation meteorological stations
  • Runway weather monitoring
  • Professional weather stations
  • Severe-weather and icing-prone installations

The Ultrasonic Wind Sensor provides accurate wind speed and wind direction measurement for AWOS, airport and professional meteorological applications without the moving components used by conventional cup-and-vane instruments. The 2040 and 2041 Series combine ultrasonic sensing, rugged 316 stainless-steel construction, configurable digital outputs and optional de-icing heat to provide reliable, low-maintenance wind monitoring across demanding environmental and icing conditions.

Key Features

  • Ultrasonic wind speed and direction measurement
  • No moving mechanical components
  • Virtually maintenance-free operation
  • No routine on-site calibration required
  • Full 0°–360° wind-direction measurement
  • 316 stainless-steel construction
  • Heated and high-heat configurations available
  • User-selectable wind units and data formats
  • RS-422 digital communications
  • Optional analog outputs
  • Suitable for severe weather and icing environments

With no bearings, cups or mechanical vane to wear, routine mechanical maintenance is minimized; optional de-icing heating also supports continuous wind measurement at sites exposed to snow and icing.
